The Curse of Fertilizer -

Like factory farming (which is not only destructive to our planet but cruel to our fellow species), popular agricultural methods are a huge danger to Earth. To learn more, I recommend reading this article.

Also, National Geographic is a fantastic and vital magazine.

Gitmo Is Killing me
ONE man here weighs just 77 pounds. Another, 98. Last thing I knew, I weighed 132, but that was a month ago.
I’ve been on a hunger strike since Feb. 10 and have lost well over 30 pounds. I will not eat until they restore my dignity.
I’ve been detained at Guantánamo for 11 years and three months. I have never been charged with any crime. I have never received a trial.

An American who was taken hostage and imprisoned in Iran, compares his experience in solitary confinement with those of prisoners in California. If you don’t know a lot about America’s prison system, I urge you to read this article. It will affect your thoughts on our legal system, prisons, and how we punish and “rehabilitate” criminals in this country. And for those of you like myself, who are already concerned with our prisons, I still recommend that you read this article—it’s a sad but necessary reminder that we’re taking away people’s freedom, in the same way non-democratic countries do, without actually caring about the humanity of prisoners/criminals or their rights to justice and rehabilitation.
